PROJECT heart
Project heART is a RVP initiated under NUS CSC to engage with children and youths with special needs! We aspire to serve as a bridge between youths with special needs and the NUS student body by providing both a platform for our community members to better express themselves as well as opportunities for NUS students to interact with and make a difference in their lives. Simultaneously, we hope to raise awareness amongst the student body about the stigma surrounding our community members.
WHAT WE DO
Our ultimate mission in Project heART is to empower youths with special needs through heART. Working with Genesis School for Special Education, we engage with students with special needs in 1-to-1 art sessions every week.
To make our sessions fun and stimulating for the students, different art mediums are used to create special masterpieces according to the week’s theme. Painting, cutting-and-pasting and drawing are just some of the creative tools we use. Diverse themes are chosen to ensure each session is a valuable opportunity for the students to discover more about topics like science, nature and themselves too!
Artwork made during the sessions were even sold in our online fundraising event during the Christmas and New Year seasons!

HEAR FROM OUR VOLUNTEERS
It has been eye-opening as I was able to interact with different community members, and understand them at a personal level. It was fun to work with other volunteers to handle each session to the best of our abilities.
It was fun! Team members and volunteers are all cooperative and friendly, forming a very heartwarming group that put in our best to care for the community members.
I feel like so far, it has been very meaningful, albeit a bit challenging. Interacting with the community members has been fun, especially when it comes to seeing them enjoy themselves as they do the art stuff. While it can be difficult sometimes to get the community members to go along with us and start their art, I think it is the process that is more meaningful in the end, especially when the community members are able to enjoy themselves.
