PROJECT LUNA

Project Luna is a LEAP project that aims to raise awareness on Persons on the Autism Spectrum (PAS) by providing befriending opportunities. Through our weekly programme, we hope to provide our beneficiaries with positive and memorable experiences, thereby uplifting their mental well-being. Looking ahead, our long-term goal is to better support their integration into the community.

WHAT WE DO

We are currently partnering with Saint Andrew’s Autism School and Saint Andrew’s Day Activity Centre, where our volunteers would engage in befriending sessions with students aged 10 to 18.

Each of our volunteers are attached to one class, where they get to experience supporting the teachers in managing the students through various communication and regulation techniques. Once a week, our volunteers get to interact with and learn from our PAS students, which contributes towards our objective of planning an outing for our students to go on. These outings will be catered to the needs of our students and enable them to apply the skills they learnt in class to the community.

HEAR FROM OUR VOLUNTEERS

I am interested in being a member of this fun community, where I can meet new people of similar passion and contribute meaningfully back to society. I hope to build more long-term friendships and understand our society better from this unique experience 🥳

- Chen Ying, Organising Committee
Volunteering has always had a special place in my heart and is the key to a fruitful and enriching life. I've always had a soft spot for people with mental disabilities. Hopefully through this project, I can help them feel loved and cared for!

- Darius, Organising Committee
I have always been eager to help out the community, especially for those who are less fortunate. I hope to immerse myself in a loving and caring community. Project Luna is a perfect example of an ideal community service in which I am excited to take part during my years in University.

- Vanessa, Organising Committee
I have a cousin who has autism and I wish to learn more about the condition so I can communicate with her better. I would also like to contribute by helping others in need 🙂
